1. Confirm Your Wedding Day: Before you purchase your invitations or print them out, ensure you have your wedding site and date confirmed, to avoid changing all the invitations.

After having a couple of months working on your mind, you probably feel as if you know what there is to know about those paper products. But before you head into the post office to send out your invitations, there are a few significant thing that you need to consider that may have never crossed your mind. So, without further ado, here are five things to do to make the most of your mailing.

1. Tissue paper inserts are not just for great looks.

While placing tissue paper between the layers of your stationery package may boost your prices, it also helps stop the ink from smudging. If you opted to use a darker colored ink onto your invitations or you went with thermography, your cards may rub together as they make their way via the mail. When it’s not too late, add a little tissue paper to ensure your reasonably paper arrives in pristine form.

2. Square invitations need more postage.

As a result of abnormal form, square envelopes require more postage to mail. While this isn’t a huge monetary gap (roughly 20 cents per cent, depending on the size) you can certainly cut a few extra dollars by deciding on a regular ol’ rectangular envelope. If you’re looking for different ways to save your invitations, then opt for an RSVP postcard rather than a traditional mail-in response card, since the cost of a postcard is under a normal stamp.

3. Never lick the adhesive to close your envelopes.

To avoid having one of your precious invitations open en route, reinforce the closure method in your envelopes by using adhesive or any other super strong adhesive. Licking isn’t only hard in your own mouth (the taste! Paper cuts!) , it also doesn’t guarantee that the package will arrive in 1 piece. For a pretty touch, add a sticker or piece of washi tape, but don’t rely on these things as the main closure approach. They could fall off or catch on other items during delivery.

4. Always take your cards within the post office.

For additional reassurance (and to avoid risking your invitations needing to battle the components), never lose them off in a street-side mailbox. If you flip them to a person in the post office directly, they are less likely to get damaged in transit, and you’ll be able to make certain you’ve done everything properly, from the stamp to the writing of the speeches. This is an especially important step if you are using vintage stamps — they can be tricky!

5. Ask the post office to hand cancel your own stamps.

Instead of allowing the post office run the invitations via a machine-operated sorting system (which marks the envelope with thick lines at the top right corner and might damage the envelope at the process) ,ask them to “hand cancel” your invitations. This means that they will use a unique ink stamp to indicate your invitation, and they will sort it by hand, reducing the risk of the damage. Whenever some post offices refuse to try it, most are elastic if you pop during a slow moment.
