1. Verify Your Wedding Date: Before you purchase your invitations or print them out, make sure you have your wedding venue and date supported, to avoid shifting all of the invitations.

After spending a couple of months working on your stationery, you probably feel like you know everything there is to know about these paper products. However, before you go into the post office to ship out your invitations, there are a couple of major thing you want to take into account that may have never crossed your mind. Thus, without further ado, here are a few steps to take to make the most of your mailing.

1. Tissue paper inserts are not just for great looks.

Whilst putting tissue paper between the layers of your stationery package may boost your prices, in addition, it helps prevent the ink from smudging. If you opted to use a darker colored ink on your own invitations or you went with thermography, your cards may rub together because they make their way via the mail. If it is not too late, then add a little tissue paper to ensure your reasonably paper arrives in pristine form.

2. Square invitations require more postage.

Due to the strange shape, square envelopes need more postage to mail. While this isn’t a massive monetary difference (roughly 20 cents per card, depending on the size) you can certainly cut a couple of additional bucks by deciding on a normal ol’ rectangular envelope. If you’re trying to find different ways to save on your invitations, opt for an RSVP postcard as opposed to a conventional mail-in response card, since the cost of a postcard stamp is under a normal stamp.

3. Never lick on the adhesive to shut your envelopes.

To avoid having one of your precious invitations open en route, reinforce the closure method on your envelopes by using adhesive or some other super strong adhesive. Licking isn’t just hard in your mouth (the taste! Paper cuts!) , it also doesn’t ensure that the package will arrive in one piece. For a fairly touch, include a sticker or part of washi tape, but don’t rely on those things as the main closure method. They could fall off or grab on other items during delivery.

4. Always take your cards inside the post office.

For extra peace of mind (and to avoid risking your invitations needing to combat the elements), never lose them off in a street-side mailbox. If you flip them to a person at the post office right, they are less likely to get damaged in transit, and you can ensure you’ve done everything correctly, from the postage to the composing of the addresses. This is a particularly important step if you’re using vintage stamps — they can be tricky!

5. Ask the post office to hand cancel your own stamps.

Instead of letting the post office conduct the invites via a machine-operated sorting system (which marks the envelope with thick lines at the upper right corner and might damage the envelope in the process) ,ask them to “hand cancel” your invitations. This means that they’ll use a unique ink stamp to mark your invitation, and they will sort it by hand, reducing the danger of this harm. While some post offices refuse to do this, most are elastic should you pop during a slow time.
