After having a few months working on your mind, you likely feel as if you know everything there is to learn about those paper goods. However, before you go to the post office to send out your invitations, there are a few major thing that you want to consider that may have never crossed your mind. Thus, without further ado, here are a few steps to take to make the most of your mailing.

1. Tissue paper inserts aren’t only for great looks.

While putting tissue paper between the layers of your stationery package may boost your prices, in addition, it helps stop the ink from smudging. If you chose to use a darker colored ink on your own invitations or you went with thermography, your cards may rub together as they make their way through the email. If it’s not too late, then add a little tissue paper to ensure your reasonably paper arrives in pristine shape.

2. Square invitations require more postage.

As a result of strange shape, square envelopes need more postage to mail. Even though this isn’t a massive monetary gap (about 20 cents per cent, depending on the dimensions) you can easily cut a couple of extra dollars by opting for a regular ol’ rectangular envelope. If you’re looking for other ways to save your invitations, then elect for an RSVP postcard rather than a conventional mail-in response card, as the cost of a postcard stamp is under a normal postage.

3. Never lick on the glue to shut your envelopes.

To prevent having one of your precious invitations open en route, reinforce the closure method on your envelopes using adhesive or some other super strong adhesive. Licking isn’t just hard on your mouth (the flavor! Paper cuts!) , it also does not ensure the package will arrive in one piece. For a fairly touch, add a sticker or piece of washi tape, however, don’t rely on those things as the main closure method. They could fall off or catch on other things during delivery.

4. Always take your cards within the post office.

For additional peace of mind (and to avoid risking your invitations needing to battle the elements), never lose them off at a street-side mailbox. Should you hand them to someone in the post office directly, they are less likely to get damaged in transit, and you’ll be able to ensure you’ve done everything properly, from the stamp into the writing of the addresses. This is a particularly important step if you’re using classic stamps — they could be tricky!

5. Ask the post office to hand cancel your own stamps.

Rather than allowing the post office conduct the invitations via a machine-operated sorting system (which marks the envelope with thick lines in the top right corner and might damage the envelope at the procedure) ,ask them to “hand cancel” your invitations. This means that they will use a unique ink stamp to indicate your invitation, and they’ll sort it by hand, reducing the risk of the harm. While some post offices refuse to do this, most are elastic if you pop during a slow moment.
