1. Confirm Your Wedding Date: Before you order your invitations or print them out, make sure you have your wedding site and date supported, to avoid changing all of the invitations.

2. RSVP: Ensure your guests may contact you by phone, email, or article. Knowing your guests numbers can help you plan your wedding clearly.

3. Print Thank You Cards: Not only sending thank you cards to your guests for attending is a sweet gesture, but purchasing them along with your wedding invitations will help save you money and time.

After spending a couple of months working on your own mind, you likely feel as if you know everything there is to know about these paper goods. But before you go to the post office to ship out your invitations, there are a few significant thing you need to take into account that may have never crossed your mind. Thus, without further ado, here are five steps to take to make the most of your mailing.

1. Tissue paper inserts are not only for good looks.

Whilst putting tissue paper between the layers of the stationery suite can boost your costs, it also helps stop the ink from smudging. If you opted to use a darker colored ink onto your invitations or you went with thermography, your cards may rub together as they make their way through the email. When it is not too late, add a bit of tissue paper to ensure your pretty paper arrives in pristine form.

2. Square invitations need more postage.

Due to the strange form, square envelopes require more postage to mail. While this isn’t a massive monetary gap (about 20 cents per card, depending on the size) you can certainly cut a couple of additional dollars by deciding on a normal ol’ rectangular envelope. If you’re trying to find other ways to save on your invitations, opt for an RSVP postcard rather than a traditional mail-in response card, as the cost of a postcard is less than a normal postage.

3. Never lick the adhesive to shut your envelopes.

To avoid having one of your precious invitations open en route, reinforce the closure method in your envelopes using glue or some other super strong adhesive. Licking isn’t just hard on your mouth (the taste! Paper cuts!) , it also doesn’t guarantee the package will arrive in 1 piece. For a fairly touch, add a sticker or piece of washi tape, but don’t rely on those things as the main closure method. They could fall off or catch on other items during delivery.

4. Always take your cards within the post office.

For extra peace of mind (and to avoid risking your invitations needing to combat the elements), never drop them off in a street-side mailbox. Should you flip them to someone in the post office right, they are less likely to get damaged in transit, and you can make certain you’ve done everything correctly, from the postage to the composing of the addresses. This is a particularly important step if you are using vintage stamps — they can be tricky!

5. Ask the post office to hand cancel your own stamps.

Rather than allowing the post office conduct the invitations via a machine-operated sorting system (which marks the envelope with thick lines in the top right corner and may damage the envelope at the procedure) ,ask them to “hand cancel” your invitations. It follows they’ll use a unique ink stamp to indicate your invitation, and they will type it by hand, lowering the danger of this harm. While some post offices refuse to try it, most are elastic should you pop during a slow time.
