After spending a couple of months working on your own stationery, you probably feel as if you know what there is to learn about these paper products. But before you head to the post office to send out your invitations, there are a couple of major thing that you need to take into account that may have never crossed your mind. Thus, without further ado, here are five steps to take to make the most of your mailing.

1. Tissue paper inserts aren’t only for good looks.

Whilst placing tissue paper between the layers of your stationery suite can increase your prices, it also helps prevent the ink from smudging. If you chose to use a darker colored ink on your own invitations or you went with thermography, your cards may rub together because they make their way through the email. If it’s not too late, add a little tissue paper to ensure your reasonably paper arrives in pristine form.

2. Square invitations require more postage.

As a result of strange shape, square envelopes require more postage to mail. While this isn’t a massive monetary gap (about 20 cents per cent, depending on the dimensions) you can certainly cut a couple of additional dollars by deciding on a normal ol’ rectangular envelope. If you’re looking for other ways to save your invitations, elect for an RSVP postcard as opposed to a traditional mail-in response card, as the price of a postcard is less than a normal stamp.

3. Never lick the glue to shut your envelopes.

To avoid having one of your prized invitations open en route, reinforce the closure method on your envelopes using glue or any other super strong adhesive. Licking isn’t only hard in your mouth (the flavor! Paper cuts!) , it also does not ensure the package will arrive in one piece. For a fairly touch, include a sticker or part of washi tape, but do not rely on those things as the main closure approach. They could fall off or catch on other things during delivery.

4. Always take your cards within the post office.

For extra peace of mind (and to avoid risking your invitations having to battle the elements), never drop them off in a street-side mailbox. Should you hand them to a person in the post office directly, they are less likely to get damaged in transit, and you can ensure you’ve done everything properly, from the stamp into the composing of the speeches. This is an especially important step if you’re using classic stamps — they could be tricky!

5. Ask the post office to hand cancel your own stamps.

Instead of letting the post office conduct the invites via a machine-operated sorting system (which marks the envelope with thick lines at the top right corner and might damage the envelope at the procedure) ,ask them to “hand cancel” your invitations. It follows that they’ll use a unique ink stamp to mark your invitation, and they’ll type it by hand, reducing the risk of this damage. Whenever some post offices refuse to do this, most are flexible should you pop during a slow time.
