1. Verify Your Wedding Date: Before you purchase your own invitations or print them out, make sure you have your wedding site and date confirmed, to avoid changing all the invitations.

After spending a few months working on your mind, you likely feel like you know everything there is to know about those paper goods. But before you head into the post office to send out your invitations, there are a couple of significant thing that you want to consider that may have never crossed your mind. So, without further ado, here are five things to do to make the most of your mailing.

1. Tissue paper inserts aren’t only for good looks.

While placing tissue paper between the layers of your stationery suite can boost your prices, it also helps stop the ink from smudging. If you chose to use a darker colored ink onto your invitations or you went with thermography, your cards may rub together as they make their way via the mail. When it is not too late, then add a little tissue paper to ensure your reasonably paper arrives in pristine form.

2. Square invitations need more postage.

As a result of strange form, square envelopes need more postage to mail. Even though this isn’t a huge monetary difference (about 20 cents per cent, depending on the dimensions) you can easily cut a couple of additional dollars by opting for a normal ol’ rectangular envelope. If you’re looking for different ways to save on your invitations, elect for an RSVP postcard rather than a traditional mail-in response card, even as the cost of a postcard stamp is less than a normal stamp.

3. Never lick on the adhesive to close your envelopes.

To avoid having one of your prized invites open en route, fortify the final method in your envelopes using glue or some other super strong adhesive. Licking is not just hard in your own mouth (the taste! Paper cuts!) , it also doesn’t ensure that the package will arrive in 1 piece. To get a fairly touch, include a sticker or piece of washi tape, however, do not rely on these things as the most important closure approach. They can fall off or catch on other things during delivery.

4. Always take your cards inside the post office.

For additional peace of mind (and to avoid risking your invitations having to combat the elements), never drop them off in an street-side mailbox. Should you hand them to someone in the post office directly, they are less likely to get damaged in transit, and you can ensure you’ve done everything properly, from the postage to the composing of the speeches. This is an especially important step if you are using classic stamps — they can be tricky!

5. Ask the post office to hand cancel your own stamps.

Instead of allowing the post office run the invitations via a machine-operated sorting system (which marks the envelope with thick lines at the top right corner and might damage the envelope in the process) ,ask them to “hand cancel” your invitations. It follows they’ll use a unique ink stamp to mark your invitation, and they’ll type it by hand, reducing the danger of the harm. Whenever some post offices refuse to do this, most are elastic should you pop in during a slow moment.
