After spending a few months working on your stationery, you likely feel as if you know everything there is to learn about those paper products. However, before you go into the post office to ship your invitations out, there are a couple of significant thing that you need to take into account that may have not crossed your mind. So, without further ado, here are a few steps to take to make the most of your mailing.

1. Tissue paper inserts are not only for good looks.

While placing tissue paper between the layers of the stationery suite can increase your costs, in addition, it helps stop the ink from smudging. If you opted to use a darker colored ink onto your own invitations or you went with thermography, your cards could rub together as they make their way through the email. If it’s not too late, add a little tissue paper to ensure your reasonably paper arrives in pristine shape.

2. Square invitations need more postage.

As a result of abnormal shape, square envelopes need more postage to mail. While this isn’t a massive monetary difference (about 20 cents per cent, depending on the dimensions) you can certainly cut a few additional bucks by opting for a normal ol’ rectangular envelope. If you’re trying to find different ways to save on your invitations, then elect for an RSVP postcard rather than a traditional mail-in response card, since the cost of a postcard is less than a standard stamp.

3. Never lick the adhesive to close your envelopes.

To prevent having one of your precious invitations open en route, fortify the final method in your envelopes using adhesive or any other super strong adhesive. Licking is not just hard on your own mouth (the flavor! Paper cuts!) , it also doesn’t guarantee the package will arrive in one piece. For a pretty touch, include a sticker or piece of washi tape, however, don’t rely on those things as the main closure approach. They can fall off or catch on other things during delivery.

4. Always take your cards within the post office.

For extra reassurance (and to avoid risking your invitations having to combat the elements), never lose them off in a street-side mailbox. Should you flip them to a person in the post office directly, they are less likely to get damaged in transit, and you can make certain you’ve done everything correctly, from the stamp into the composing of the addresses. This is an especially important step if you are using classic stamps — they can be tricky!

5. Ask the post office to hand cancel your stamps.

Rather than allowing the post office conduct the invitations via a machine-operated sorting system (which marks the envelope with thick lines at the upper right corner and might harm the envelope at the process) ,ask them to “hand cancel” your invitations. This means they will use a unique ink stamp to indicate your invitation, and they will sort it by hand, reducing the risk of the harm. Whenever some post offices refuse to do this, most are elastic should you pop during a slow moment.
